UNS S31254/254 MO is an austenitic stainless steel with a high molybdenum content. Coupled with Nickel and Copper this gives the alloy a good resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, especially in environments containing halide ions, e.g. chloride, bromide and fluoride solutions.UNS S31254/254 MO may offer a cost effective solution to Nickel and Titanium alloys in these environments.
ASTM A312 S31254 smls pipe is one such pipe that is considered as a high austenitic grade. It has a strength that is 3 times the stainless steel 300 series. SMO 254 pipe efficiently resists pitting, crevice corrosion and chloride stress corrosion cracking. 254 SMO Tubing is well known for high ductility and good impact strength. It is also known as moly 6 due to the addition of molybdenum in trace amounts.
It is designed with a combination of impact toughness resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, and pitting and crevice corrosion with strength that is twice that of the stainless steel 300 series.UNS S31254/254 MO is a high-alloy austenitic stainless steel developed for use in seawater and other aggressive chloride-bearing media.
